Assalamualaikum
Have you ever felt so fresh during dawn, feeling
overwhelmed with happiness, listening to the chirping of the birds together
with the beautiful voice and words of takbir for one sole reason to worship The
Creator, Allah SWT. It is non-other than EID!!
Usually
my mother will wake up as early as 4am to prepare all the foods that is needed
to be served after the sunnah rakaat of eid prayer. She will make traditional
indian food, which is ‘Idhiyappam’, together with ‘kurma curry’, mutton curry,
depending on each and every family members likes that goes together with fried
chicken. All of the other family members will wake up around 5am and queue up
to brush their teeth and to take sunnah shower. This queuing session can only be
witnessed during Eid. XD
As
for my race, we usually won’t be celebrating Eid at our hometown, because if we
have to celebrate like how the Malay’s does, then, my family and I would be
booking ticket to India every single year. We do celebrate Eid in India at
times, but not that often, plus, the taste of enjoyment wouldn’t be the same.
As for me, I prefer celebrating Eid in Malaysia as we get to perform Eid prayer,
while in India, the women usually won’t be participating in the Eid prayer. But
one plus point is that, I get to meet both sides of my grandparents and all my
relatives that are still staying in that country. You’ll be loved and will be
greeted warmly by every single person in that particular place that you are
staying. Not only that, I love to walk around the village and just get into any
house that I feel like entering. I’ll be treated so good, and not to forget the
‘duit raya’.
Okay,
enough travelling around world, let’s get back to Malaysia(haha). So, after
performing the two obligatory rakaat’s of Subuh prayer, all of us will be
having a hot cup of coffee, tea or milo. Right after that, my family and I will
prepare ourselves to the masjid nearby to worship Allah in the form of two
sunnah rakaat’s of Eid prayer. After completing it, there you go, the emotional
and sentimental moment will come along. All the servants of Allah in the masjid
or madrasah will be hugging and kissing their mahram, asking for forgiveness
and make their bond closer to each other. Not to forget, this is the place
where we can see variety of colours and dresses being worn by the Muslims with
their happy faces after a whole month of fasting, controlling nafs, practicing
all the day during the holy month of Ramadhan to strive to become a better
person on that day of Eid.
So the
celebration continues, by having our breakfast which is the indian traditional
food mentioned earlier, then a great feast during lunch, where we usually will be
having biryani as our main dish that comes together with mutton or chicken curry,
fried chicken, cabbage that is dunked and dipped with mayonnaise where I can
never describe how good the taste is. Besides, as usual, there will be variety
of biscuits and chocolate chips been done and baked during the fasting month
such as, chocolate almond, chocolate corn flakes, murukku and many more. These mouth
washers will be given to the neighborhoods and will be brought to relatives
house when we pay a visit.
Thus,
the entire day of Eid’l Fitr will be more of visiting relatives, chit-chatting
among our aged groups, playing fire crackers, enjoying feast and crunchy
cookies, laughter and a sense of relief after fasting and going through all the
trials during the whole month of Ramadhan. So, this is how my family and I
celebrate Eid (Sorry, we don’t make ketupat and rendang as we actually do not
know how to do them and I have tasted rendang only twice in my life, and for
ketupat, trst me, I had never tried it before :p )
